Ye, I will DREAM ON!

Have you got a dream that you have toyed with from your childhood? It’s always been a dream of mine to become an author. I enjoyed seeing other people's lives through reading when I was young. It gave me hope, challenged my mind it was not only fun. How great it would be if I could tell others about my experiences and feelings and share them.

So what have I been doing for my dream? Practically? Nothing. I haven’t written any fiction or anything yet. Becoming a writer without practising writing is that possible? I guess many people would like to say ‘Dream on!’ But I believe it’s more important to have intense experiences than to spend time focusing on writing. Furthermore, it’s a good time to learn about the world and broaden my horizons at my young age.

So I had travelled around Europe for forty days by myself. I realised that indeed there was a really big world outside Korea! I became so sensitised by the experience that I kept a diary of the trip . It might be helpful when I publish travel journals later. Before X, I had been working in a natural cosmetics company, so I was able to learn about environmentally-friendly cosmetics, harmful effects of chemicals, organic industries, fair-trading and so on. I am happy to get to know how to live a sustainable life on the earth with the others.

When I felt a lack of experience, I decided to go to another country. And now, I’m in Australia. Australia is a great place in that it’s a melting pot of nationalities. Of course, there might be ups and downs while I am living in Australia, far from my country. But there’s a simple principle. Make more mistakes, then you learn more. This whole experience could eventually make me wiser and more creative.

I am still keeping my dream. I want to write a sincere essay or a novel in my latter life. From now on I will try to make my life more beautiful and passionate for my writing further down the track. I am sure my journey- my life is going on a right track in terms of following my dream. And who cares if I don't become a writer? Keeping a dream in your mind would lead you to a satisfactory life at the end.
Let’s just dream on.

  1. Hello Ju-Young. I think you are correct to be travelling instead of practising writening. A great author need creativity to write, and to have that, life experiences are very important.
I also think that writing a travel diary can be very usefull in the future.

In the last paragraph, I couldn't understand the meaning of sentence "From now on I will try to my life more beautiful and passionate for my writing after decades.". It might sound better if you say "From now on, I will try to MAKE my life more beutiful and passionate for my further writings".

And shouldn't have you used future tense when you say "And who cares if..."? It would be clearer if you say "And who will care if I didn't become a writer".

  2. This is a great blog post, i'm sure you are living your dreams, although shouldn't you tell us how you would live your dream easily without so much struggle?

Shouldn't you be careful with the infinitive and gerunds?, because i believe in this part "I believe it’s more important HAVING abundant experiences" Could be better use a infinitive TO HAVEthan the gerud HAVING

Why don't you use one of these two prepositions "to or around" in this part "I had travelled the Europe" i guess it coulbe better?

I'm not sure, but i think you might have missed the infinitive TO MAKE in this part "I will try to my life more"
